These **Homemade Dog Treats** are healthy, simple, and made with wholesome ingredients you can trust! Perfect for training, rewards, or just showing your furry friend some love. No artificial flavors, preservatives, or mystery ingredients — just real food for your best pal.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (unsalted, no xylitol!)
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup water or low-sodium chicken broth
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional, aids digestion)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix wet ingredients: In a bowl, combine applesauce, peanut butter, egg, and water/broth until smooth.
- Add dry ingredients: Gradually stir in flour, oats, and cinnamon until a stiff dough forms. Add more flour if too sticky.
- Roll & cut: Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters or a knife.
- Bake 25 minutes until golden and firm.
- Cool completely before serving — treats will harden as they cool.
- Store: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Tip: Use bone, paw, or heart-shaped cutters for fun! Always check with your vet if your dog has allergies. Avoid chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, and xylitol.
