🍫 German Chocolate Pie
This German Chocolate Pie is a rich, creamy, and indulgent twist on the classic German chocolate cake! A chocolate cookie crust is filled with smooth chocolate pudding and topped with a sweet, nutty coconut layer. It's the ultimate dessert for chocolate enthusiasts!
Ingredients
- Crust: 1 1/2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs (Oreo or chocolate graham), 5 tbsp melted butter
- Filling: 1 (3.9 oz) packet instant chocolate pudding mix, 1 3/4 cups cold milk, 1 cup frozen whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
- Topping: 1/2 cup evaporated milk, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 egg yolks, 2 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 cup sweetened coconut flakes, 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Make crust: Mix cookie crumbs and melted butter. Press firmly into a 9-inch pie dish. Chill.
- Make filling: Whisk pudding mix and milk for 2 minutes. Let thicken for 5 minutes. Fold in whipped topping. Pour into the prepared crust.
- Cook topping: In a saucepan, combine evaporated milk, brown sugar, egg yolks, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 7–10 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans.
- Cool topping: Let the topping cool for 10–15 minutes (to prevent melting the filling), then spread evenly over the pie filling.
- Chill: Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight, until set.
- Serve: Slice and enjoy chilled. Store leftover pie covered in the refrigerator.
Tip: For a shortcut, use a pre-made chocolate pie crust. Toast the pecans first for an extra layer of flavor!
