Ingredients
- 1 (1 lb) round sourdough or French bread loaf (or 4 small rolls)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced (or 2 tsp garlic powder)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped (or 2 tsp dried)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare bread: Slice the top off the loaf. Hollow out the inside, leaving about 1/2 inch of bread on all sides. Tear the removed bread into pieces for dipping.
- Make garlic butter: In a bowl, mix softened butter, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Butter the bowl: Spread the garlic butter all over the inside and cut top of the bread.
- Add cheese (optional): Sprinkle mozzarella or Parmesan on the inside surface.
- Bake 12–15 minutes until bread is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- Serve warm: Fill with your favorite soup, chili, or dip. Serve with the toasted bread pieces on the side.
Tip: Great with creamy tomato soup, chili, chicken pot pie filling, or queso dip. For a shortcut, use store-bought garlic bread spread!
