  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Add dry ingredients: Sift in flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined — do not overmix.
  4. Fold in extras: Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  5. Pour into pan: Transfer batter to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake 50–55 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
