This Biscuits and Gravy Casserole is a hearty, comforting breakfast dish combining flaky biscuits, savory sausage gravy, and melty cheese — all baked together in one delicious, easy-to-make casserole. Ideal for holiday mornings, potlucks, or a weekend brunch!
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) breakfast sausage (mild or spicy)
- 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated Grands! Flaky Biscuits (8 count)
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage, breaking it up, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease.
- Make the gravy: In the same skillet, melt 3 tbsp butter (or use some drippings). Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Simmer 5–7 minutes, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Season: Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Prepare biscuits: Cut each biscuit into quarters.
- Layer the casserole: In the baking dish, layer half the biscuits, half the sausage, and half the cheese. Repeat layers.
- Add gravy: Pour the hot sausage gravy evenly over the top layer.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and biscuits are golden.
- Garnish: Sprinkle with green onions if desired.
- Serve hot — perfect with fruit or hash browns!
Tip: Use pre-made sausage gravy for a shortcut. Add a pinch of cayenne for extra heat!
