π Amish White Bread

Ingredients
- 3 cups warm water (110Β°F)
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 2 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 8β9 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Bloom the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5β10 minutes until foamy.
- Add wet ingredients: Stir in oil and salt.
- Gradually add flour: Mix in 8 cups of flour, 1 cup at a time, until dough pulls away from the sides. Add more flour if needed to form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
- Knead: Turn onto a floured surface and knead 5β7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1.5β2 hours, until doubled.
- Shape: Punch down and divide into 2 equal portions. Shape into loaves and place in greased 9x5" loaf pans.
- Second rise: Cover and let rise 30β45 minutes until dough rises above the rim.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Bake 28β32 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 190Β°F.
- Cool: Remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Tip: For a soft top, brush the loaves with melted butter right after baking. Store in an airtight bag for up to 4 days or freeze for longer storage!
