🍗 Chicken and Cheese Dog Treats
These Chicken and Cheese Dog Treats are soft, chewy, and bursting with real chicken and a hint of cheddar — made with just a few simple, wholesome ingredients your furry friend will adore. A healthy, homemade alternative to store-bought treats!
Ingredients
- 1 cup cooked chicken, finely shredded or blended
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup water or low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp olive oil or melted coconut oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Blend chicken (optional): For a smoother texture, blend the cooked chicken with water or broth until it forms a paste. (Leaving it slightly chunky is fine too).
- Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the chicken mixture (or shredded chicken), egg, and oil.
- Add dry ingredients: Gradually stir in flour, cheese, and oats until a firm dough forms. Add more flour if it's too sticky.
- Roll and cut: On a floured surface, roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into small shapes (bones, squares).
- Bake 20–25 minutes until the treats are golden brown and firm to the touch.
- Cool completely before giving to your dog.
- Store: Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week, or freeze for longer storage.
Tip: Always consult your vet before introducing new foods. Avoid ingredients like garlic, onions, or xylitol which are harmful to dogs!
